Senior to present research at national meeting

Biochemistry major Julianne Lenti has been selected to present her research at the 245th American Chemical Society National Meeting, which will be held in New Orleans from April 7-11.

“To have a research paper chosen for presentation at the American Chemical Society National Meeting is a significant accomplishment,” said Dr. Latha Gearheart, Associate Professor of Chemistry.

Lenti’s research, “Effect of Gold Nanoparticles on Supercoiled DNA Relaxation by Topoisomerase I,” highlights her findings from her PC Summer Fellows and honors research project. Her project and research were funded by South Carolina Independent Colleges and University (SCICU).

“This research project manifested from two years of ‘think-tank’ discussions and groundwork experiments conducted by PC graduates and chemistry majors, Martha Myers and Bryan Nichols, and has culminated into what I believe is a significant contribution to the combined fields of nanoscience and biocatalysis,” said Gearheart.

The American Chemical Society is a congressionally chartered independent membership organization that represents professionals at all degree levels and in all fields of chemistry and sciences that involve chemistry. There are more than 164,000 members, making the American Chemical Society the world’s largest scientific society and one of the world’s leading sources of authoritative scientific information, highlighting only the premier scientific works from around the world.

Lenti, a senior at PC and a native of Columbia, South Carolina, will graduate in May and attend the South Carolina School of Pharmacy.
