The faculty and staff enjoyed a lunch celebration during the annual picnic at Alumni Green on Thursday. There was a wonderful meal, a lot of laughter and some corn hole and bocce ball games. It was a nice way to say thank you to all the people who work so hard to make PC a success.

We are just a week away from observing one of the College’s significant rites for our seniors—graduation. This year is special since the students in the inaugural class of the School of Pharmacy receive their doctor of pharmacy degrees.

Awarding degrees is a wonderful aspect of my college presidency, but it is also a time of regret because we will say farewell to an outstanding group of students. I know, however, our time together does not have to come to an end. I hope each of our graduates will continue their relationship with the College through the PC Alumni Association.

I have talked with many of the seniors regarding their plans as they move on to the next stage of their lives. I will watch them receive their diplomas and think of the careers and graduate studies many of them will begin following the May 10 commencement.

To parents, guardians, spouses and friends, please know that we are grateful you have supported our students. You, like the students, have invested time and funds. We hope we have lived up to your expectations.

There are other events occurring next week as part of commencement including a special ceremony for our baseball student-athletes who will receive their diplomas on Thursday before traveling to Florida to participate in the Big South playoffs.

From the Teacher Induction ceremony and the ROTC commissioning ceremony, to the Baccalaureate service, there is much to celebrate for our students. I encourage you to visit our commencement website for the full schedule.

While our graduates’ work here is finish, the endeavors of faculty and staff do not stop. We are working diligently to prepare for the next freshmen class to ensure their first Blue Hose Family experience in the Fall is one they will not forget.

Our efforts continue on the Master Plan; you can see updates on the Master Plan website. We have been sharing the plans through a series of Alumni socials in Charlotte, Greenville, Greenwood and Atlanta. Our next stop is May 13 in in Columbia. We also invite you to the Scotsman Club Invitational scheduled June 16 at The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood.
