PC celebrates scholarships, leadership at Honors Day 2007

April 17, 2007

Presbyterian College's most outstanding scholars and leaders were at center stage Tuesday as the college celebrated its annual Honors Day convocation in Belk Auditorium.

Associate professor of history Dr. Anita Gustafson was named PC Professor of the Year, while Katherine Bryant, a history major from Atlanta, Ga., was named Outstanding Senior for 2006-07. Both will be the featured speakers during the college's commencement exercises on May 5.

Accepting her award to a standing ovation, Gustafson, also the interim dean of academic programs, gave simple thanks - to her fellow faculty members; to her husband, Charlie, and their son, Karl; and to her students.

"I especially want to thank my students because it is you who make this entire endeavor so incredibly worthwhile," she said.

Bryant, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bryant of Atlanta, was selected by her peers to represent the Class of 2007. In addition to being named Outstanding Senior, she also earned the Outstanding Senior Award in History and an Academic Excellence Award - and was recognized as a member of the national leadership and scholarship society, Omicron Delta Kappa.
