PC's Harper Gallery to show 'New Horizons,' Jan. 18-March 8

Presbyterian College's Elizabeth Stone Harper Gallery will host Shingo Francis' "New Horizons,"Jan. 18-March 8.

Francis currently maintains studios in Yokohama, Japan, and Brooklyn, N.Y., and works in painting, drawing, and photography. His work has a minimal and abstract approach to the landscape with an emphasis on geographic scale and light. His most recent works, including those to be show at PC, are a series of ocean and desert horizons.

A native of Santa Monica, Calif., Francis earned his bachelor of fine arts degree from Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif. His work has been shown throughout the world – in galleries in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco and in Japan, Switzerland, and South Korea.

In 2003, he earned the SICF Fumio Nanjo Award presented in honor of the deputy director of the Mori Museum in Tokyo, Japan.

A reception for "New Horizons" will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the Harper Gallery.

The Harper Gallery is open daily from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. when the college is in session. Admission is free.
