| March 28, 2007 All of our majors are important to us, but the following individuals have distinguished themselves with respect to their work in our department and show great promise in their respective major areas. The Carl J. Arnold Scholarship was established in 1991 upon the retirement of Dr. Carl J. Arnold who was the Dana Professor of Economics at Presbyterian College. The scholarship was established by alumni, colleagues, and friends in his honor. The scholarship is given to rising juniors or seniors who possess an exemplary work ethic and show promise in the field. This year’s award is presented to Janna Cone. The W. Fred Chapman, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2001 in honor of Dr. Fred Chapman who was the Robert M. Vance Professor of Economics at Presbyterian College. The scholarship was established by alumni, colleagues, and friends in his honor. The scholarship is given to rising juniors or seniors who possess an exemplary work ethic and show promise in the field. This year’s award is presented to Erin Bailey. The Robert E. and Francis P. Bunnell Scholarship is given annually to a student who shows future promise and aptitude in both business and the humanities. This year’s winner is Mandy Pittman. The Joseph E. and Geraldine A. Patrick Scholarships are awarded to two rising seniors who show great promise in the field of Business Administration. The Patrick Scholarships were given by Mrs. Patrick and the late Mr. Patrick. Mr. Patrick served on the Board of Trustees. This year’s scholarships are presented to Kari Fuller and Carson Davis. The Jim C. Oleand Scholarship is given annually to a student who shows promise in both the field of accounting and business. The Oleand scholarship is given in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Oleand by their children. This year’s recipients are Joe Frost and Michelle Carl. The Ouida Cox Bailey Scholarship is awarded to a Business Administration major who has shown outstanding achievement at Presbyterian College. The award was established by Mrs. Bailey. This year we have three recipients. They are Kelsey Dotson, Lauren Letien, and Jordan Baarke. The Kenneth N. Baker Scholarship is given annually by the department to students who have shown outstanding achievement. This year’s three recipients are Ben Dollar, Wes Paul, and Craig Engle. The P.S. Bailey Scholarship is given by Mrs. P.S. Bailey in memory of her husband and is awarded to students who have shown outstanding achievement. This year’s recipients are Sherman Burnett and Antwan Thomas. The SC Young Bankers Association Scholarship is given by the SC Young Bankers Association to students with promise in the field of financial services. This year we have two recipients from Presbyterian College. Wilson Davis and Justine Schwindel. The Departmental Leadership Award is given to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership among their peers during their tenure in the Dept. of Economics & Business Adm. This year’s recipients have distinguished themselves in many ways, including as presidents of the SAM and Accounting Clubs. We are pleased to recognize Laura Amick and Michelle Purvis as this year’s recipients of this award. The Entrepreneurial Award is given to a student who demonstrates promise as a future entrepreneur. This year’s recipient, Dana Waters, has already proven his entrepreneurial promise with his current business, My Friends Bookstore. To help with future endeavors, he can choose a year’s subscription to either Entrepreneur or Inc. Magazine. The Departmental Achievement Award is given by the Department to students who demonstrate diligence, outstanding work ethic and professionalism in their studies. These students have attained a 3.5 or greater grade point average. This year’s recipients are Megan Kocis, Samantha Sepulveda, Claire Joyce, Michelle Purvis, Mark Lentz, Gene Walpole, and Zach Zesbitt. The Wall Street Journal Award is presented to a graduating senior who has shown outstanding academic achievement at Presbyterian College. This year’s recipient is Samantha Sepulveda. The Department of Economics and Business Administration’s Outstanding Senior award is traditionally given to the senior that has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in their work in the Department. The award will be presented at the College’s honor convocation. This year’s winner is Megan Kocis.  |
