Blue Hose fans celebrated Dr. Joe Gettys’ 101^st birthday before PC played Clemson at the Drive Stadium in Greenville on Wednesday, April 23. “Dr. Joe,” as he’s known in the PC community, tipped his cap to the nearly sell-out crowd when the PA announcer announced his birthday. Gettys was professor emeritus of religion from 1956- 1974.  He also served as academic dean at PC and been a pastor at several churches. “Dr. Joe” won PC’s highest award, the PC medallion, for his eighty years of service to the church.
