*Seniors receive three tickets for guests. Empty seats (typically in the balcony) will be made available at approximately 7:20 on a first-come-first-serve basis* |
Belk Auditorium will open around 6:30 p.m. We recommend that guests be seated no later than 7:10 p.m. The ushers will release empty seats at approximately 7:20 p.m. If graduating seniors are bringing more than 3 guests, those without tickets will most likely get a seat at that time although the additional seating may be in the balcony. Guests with special needs will be offered seating in two areas: on the left front rows or in the back area behind the last row of seats. These guests may enter the auditorium at either the door at the bottom (on the Edmund Hall side) or through the loggia. Ushers will be there to direct and assist. If you have guests with special needs, we recommend that you allow them to use your tickets since the empty seats will likely be in the balcony

Many guests will arrive as early as 8:30 a.m. Ushers will be in place around 9:00 a.m. to hand out programs and assist with seating issues. Seats will be reserved for seniors on one side of the processional aisle and faculty/college guests (on the other) as well as for guests with special needs.
There will be plenty of non-reserved seating behind the seniors and faculty; in the roadways; and on the lawns of Bailey, Jacobs, and other surrounding buildings. There will be a reserved section that will be accessible for visitors in wheelchairs or walkers or those who just can’t travel very far. We will try to make that section as large as possible so that families can still sit together. This section will most probably be in the area in front of the Armed Forces Memorial with handicapped parking in the lot behind H-P and/or Jacobs. Campus police will direct folks looking for handicapped parking/seating to this lot and will have a golf cart on hand for transporting folks to their seats if they are unable to walk. You will not need a ticket for handicapped seating; ushers will monitor this section to ensure only guests with special needs and their families sit here.

Since there is adequate seating for everyone in West Plaza, we are not using tickets.
In case of inclement weather, we will use Templeton Gym. Seniors will receive six tickets in case it does rain. If you have more than 6 guests, we will do our best to accommodate them in Templeton after we have filled the seats with ticketed visitors.
We have requested clear skies for Commencement morning. But in the event that our request is not fulfilled, commencement exercises will be held in Templeton Gym. If the skies are threatening, Dr. Griffith will usually make a decision about the location around 8:30 a.m. Check your email that Saturday morning or look for activity (or lack thereof) on the West Plaza.
