Business professor and students win awards

February 4, 2008

The chair of the business department, Dr. Jody Lipford, and two juniors in the business department, Kate Morgan and Brent Arant, have recently won awards.

Lipford won the John Templeton prize for Journal of Private Enterprise’s article of the year, "Short Run Macroeconomic Performance and Economic Freedom." He will receive the award in April in Las Vegas.

“While I certainly thought that the paper had merit,” Lipford said, “winning article of the year from an organization such as the Association of Private Enterprise Education, comprised of people for whom I have great respect, is a high honor.”

Lipford’s research and writing have covered many topics over the years, from free riding in churches and government budgets to property rights and economic freedom.

Morgan, a business management major from Edgefield, SC, and Arant, an accounting major from Bowman, SC, recently won the South Carolina Young Bankers’ Scholarship.

The award is given annually to three to five college students

statewide. They will receive their awards February 5th at the

Young Bankers’ meeting in Columbia.

"(Winning the scholarship) is a testament to the professors here at PC, and I'm glad I could represent the college in a positive light," Arant said. "It is truly a testament to how these award-winning professors prepare us. It's through scholarships like these that I am able to take advantage of a PC education."
