Accounting majors post impressive numbers

February 8, 2008

Gene Walpole ’07 and PC students Emily Daniel and Craig Engle recently won awards given by the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. The PC accounting majors accounted for four of the sixteen winners at the SCACPA awards ceremony.

"The professors here at PC are one of the reasons that PC was represented so well," Engle said. "We have a strong relationship with them, ands it is also a little extra incentive to work hard and do well . . . We do not want to disappoint our professors."

Engle, a senior from Aiken, won the Kaye Carter Scholarship.

Daniel, from Camden, won two awards: the Sheheen, Hancock, & Godwin, LLP Scholarship and the Piedmont Chapter of SCACPA Scholarships.

Walpole '07, from Johns Island, currently a graduate student at USC, won the Joe Jackson Scholarship.

The scholarships are awarded to rising juniors or seniors or Master’s degree students attending a South Carolina college or university. The students must possess an overall GPA of at least 3.25 with a GPA in accounting of at least 3.5. More than $21,500 was awarded at the SCACPA ceremony.
