Renovation of the beloved 84-year-old Springs Campus Center

March 26, 2008

When deciding on a college, prospective students shop facilities. And so do their parents.

No facility is more important than the campus center because all students, no matter what classes they take, visit the campus center almost daily.

Spring for Springs is a 90-day mini-campaign to continue fundraising efforts for the renovation of Springs Campus Center. The event began on March 1 and has sprung to a promising start as $175,000 has already been raised. The donation has gone toward renovating the fitness center, which is almost complete. The fitness center is set to open in the summer.

"Upon hearing about the renovations and changes to Springs, most importantly the fitness center, students are anxiously awaiting using these new machines and utilizing the space," Maggie Nash, student body secretary said. "Overall we feel that the student body will be more likely to exercise and get healthy. We look forward to using the fitness center that we have heard so much about."

Attention now turns to renovating the rest of the first floor of the eighty-four-year-old campus center. Plans are to add a new food court, a porch for dining, a student lounge, a game room, and wireless internet access. A newly-renovated campus center would impact the entire college community, not to mention being welcome with open arms.

"I'm looking forward to more space inside. It's hard to hang out with all the people you want to hang out with when there's limited space,” sophomore Leah Fields says. "But mostly, I'm looking forward to the patio because I love to sit outside when the weather is nice."

The estimated cost to renovate the first floor is $1 million, the goal of Spring for Springs. The mini-campaign ends on May 31.
