Tom Stallworth Campaign announced

May 2, 2008

The institution that Tom loved was, of course, people.  And the people of PC, Tom’s classmates, his students, colleagues, his students’ families and friends through so many years, did, indeed, love him back.

PC has announced the Tom Stallworth Campaign to honor the man who served the college for nearly 40 years.  The campaign is intended to raise funding for the college’s academic, athletic, and administrative areas. All are areas that Stallworth served in before his death in 2007.

A goal of $25,000 has been set to continue to strengthen the Thomas Aurelius Stallworth scholarship, which was established in 1995 by friends and colleagues.

A goal of $100,000 has been set to establish a new Stallworth men’s soccer scholarship in recognition of Stallworth’s tenure as PC men’s soccer coach in the 90’s.

A goal of $150,000 has been set for an area in Springs Campus Center to celebrate each facet of Stallworth’s service to PC. The area will include a portrait, wall plaque, and other items for display.

“Tom Stallworth’s legacy continues,” Harry Workman, director of church advancement, said,  “as the generations of ‘PCuns’ he impacted spiritually, academically, and athletically now desire to give back to the cherished institution  to which Tom so unselfishly gave his life to serve. The grassroots movement to memorialize his life and service is a testament to his life.”

After graduating from PC in 1955, Stallworth served a brief term as assistant pastor. He then returned to PC, serving as professor of religion, dean of students, director of alumni affairs, and in many more capacities. Stallworth made such an impact on students during his time at PC that they dedicated the PaC SaC to him in ’63, ’73, and ’81.
