The Newton G. Hardie Cultural Enrichment Program

Instituted in 1983 by the college's faculty, the Newton G. Hardie Cultural Enrichment Program is designed to ensure that Presbyterian College students have the broad and rich cultural experience that is desired and expected of liberal arts graduates. Students are required to attend twenty lecture events and twenty performance events during their tenure at Presbyterian College. The schedule includes lectures, concerts, recitals, dramatic productions, dance performances, films, and art exhibits. The general public is invited to attend.

The Newton G. Hardie Memorial Fund

In 1962, the Newton G. Hardie, Sr., Memorial Lecture Fund was established in memory of Mr. Hardie by his wife, Dr. Virginia S. Hardie of Pendleton, South Carolina, and his son, Newton G. Hardie, Jr., of Spartanburg, South Carolina, to bring outstanding lecturers to Presbyterian College. In 1997, a gift from the estate of Dr. Virginia Hardie, a former member of the Presbyterian College Board of Visitors and Board of Trustees, was added to the Newton G. Hardie Memorial Fund. In honor of that gift, the Cultural Enrichment Program at Presbyterian College has been named the Newton G. Hardie Cultural Enrichment Program.
