Presbyterian College invites applications from individuals committed to liberal arts education in a church-related college. Specifically, we seek to fill the following positions for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Dean of the Pharmacy School

Dean of the Pharmacy School

Presbyterian College has received approval from its Board of Trustees to begin a School of Pharmacy and is now ready to develop a doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program under the direction of a Founding Dean.  This is an excellent opportunity to craft a teaching-intensive school of pharmacy strongly connected to the College’s mission of providing education within a community of learning, intellectual freedom, honor, service, and faith. The projected school of pharmacy will incorporate a particular focus on public service and biomedical ethics in the context of pharmacy practice.  It is expected that an inaugural class of 75 students will enroll in the Fall Term of 2010. The Dean of the School of Pharmacy will report to the President.

Initial responsibilities will include:  leading the ACPE accreditation process, beginning with application for precandidate status; designing a practice-oriented curriculum; recruitment of a leadership team and faculty; overseeing renovations and construction of facilities for the pharmacy program; fund-raising; and establishing collaborative relationships, including sites for experiential placements, within the health care community of the Upstate region of South Carolina and beyond.

Presbyterian College, founded in 1880, is a nationally recognized, very selective, four-year undergraduate, residential liberal arts college related to the Presbyterian Church (USA). Distinctive characteristics and programs include a student-run honor system, a nationally recognized service program, extensive opportunities for study abroad, and a commitment to values informed by the Reformed Tradition of the Christian Faith. Its 240-acre, neo-Georgian campus includes several buildings on the National Register. The college offers 26 majors and a variety of minors, several of them interdisciplinary. The College is fiscally sound, maintains undergraduate enrollment at 1,200 students, and is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The College is located in the City of Clinton, South Carolina, in close proximity to Columbia and the Greenville-Spartanburg areas of South Carolina. Clinton (pop. 10,000) is ideally located in the Upstate of South Carolina and is an easy drive from both the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.

Candidates must possess a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Pharm.D.), and a degree in pharmacy is preferred.  A record of exceptional teaching, scholarship, and service is expected.  The person chosen will have proven interpersonal and administrative skills, a commitment to fund-raising, and vision indicative of their ability to shape and energetically lead a new School of Pharmacy.  The College seeks to employ academic leaders and faculty interested in the dynamic dialogue between reason and faith that is nurtured on campus.  Thus, the College invites candidates from any Christian denomination as well as from other religious traditions. The position offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Applications/nominations must include a letter of interest, current curriculum vitae, and contact information for three (3) references.  The screening of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. A starting date in Spring 2008 is expected.   Dr. Joseph O. Dean, Jr. is advising the College on the search and may be contacted at: 205-541-6571 or jdeansu@bellsouth.net. Please send nominations and/or applications to:
