The accounting concentration is a unique program offering students the opportunity for a specialized area of study within the liberal arts environment.

Traditionally, specialization in the liberal arts has been uncommon. A student interested in the accounting concentration must successfully complete the general education requirements in addition to the concentration work. The general education requirements give each PC student the opportunity to study in several different disciplines including mathematics, the physical sciences, the social sciences, and the fine arts.

Accounting students get plenty of hands-on experience as part of their coursework using the Jacobs Hall computer lab, with 18 computers, and our teaching theater, with 25 computers.

The best measure of a program’s success is the employment opportunities students find available upon graduation. Our students enter accounting positions in both public accounting and private industry. Many have successfully completed the CPA examination. Students wanting to enter the public accounting profession should be aware that individual states license CPAs. Most states have adopted a 150-hour education requirement that requires additional coursework beyond that required for an undergraduate degree. For example, the South Carolina Board of Accountancy has adopted the 150-hour requirement for licensure. Check with your state board of accountancy or contact one of the PC accounting faculty members for additional information on current requirements.

Whether they choose to enroll in graduate school or go straight into an accounting career, PC accounting graduates have a track record of success.

Some of the firms and organizations that have hired our graduates include the following:
  • Ernst and Young
