We are glad that you have taken the time to explore Presbyterian College and its Political Science  and Public Policy program.

We are a diverse and active department that encourages students to – not only study politics and government – but also to engage it. Our courses offer students an opportunity to develop skills to become more engaged citizens and to be successful in their professions.  With these experiences, our students go on to a variety of careers, including law, government service, political advocacy and education, among others.

You can take a wide range of courses in political science at PC that specialize in U.S. politics, public policy and administration, comparative politics, international relations, or political theory. In class, you and your fellow students will engage in rigorous discussions, simulate court trials and presidential debates, or even practice speech-writing. You’ll have the opportunity to work individually with professors on their research (or yours!).

Our faculty will bring politics and government up close to you, such as the recent Immigration and Border spring break trip, where students led by our faculty, learned about immigration policies in an unforgettable setting as they toured the U.S. southern border and discussed the issue with government officials and scholars.  Our Maymester program combines educational experiences with memorable travel experiences and offers our majors the opportunity to learn and travel to Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa with their classmates and faculty.

And, of course, you’ll find groups like the Political Science Club, Young Democrats, College Republicans, the South Carolina Student Legislature, and the Model UN Club. Honor societies such as Pi Sigma Alpha also recognize superior work of students in the classroom and beyond.
