The Southern Studies minor offers students an interdisciplinary examination of the U.S. South from the colonial era to the present.

Southern Studies minors will study the history and politics of this region; southern literary, musical, and artistic production; the people, places, cultures, foodways, and belief systems that comprise the South; and much, much more. This minor encourages PC students to think rigorously and critically about the places and region that many of us call home.

An interdisciplinary minor encourages students to make intellectual connections across disciplines and to think beyond disciplinary boundaries, while simultaneously enhancing and building on what students have learned in discipline-specific courses. More practically, an interdisciplinary minor such as Southern Studies can be particularly attractive to a broad range of employers and graduate programs.
