What kind of people go to PC? People who are interested in everything. People who believe there is more to life than a career goal. People who want a college that will channel their energy while letting them chart their own course. People who want to know what truly matters.
Are you interested in learning more than what's in the book?
We'll let you in on a secret: in the real world, everyone has learned what's in the book. Sure, at PC, you'll learn what's in the book, but we believe that's only the raw material. What sets you apart is your ability to combine that knowledge with the mental agility to evaluate, analyze, and communicate -- these are the skills that produce leaders and innovators. And these are what you learn at PC. To us, that's the essence of the liberal arts education.
Are you interested in being the first priority?
Ask any of our students and they'll tell you -- they're the first priority of every PC professor. Miss a class and the professor notices. Miss two classes and she'll check to make sure everything is okay. Call a professor at home and he'll stop whatever he's doing to answer your questions.
At PC, we hire faculty for their teaching abilities and their ability to connect with students. In fact, that connection is so important that students play a key role in interviewing and hiring new professors.
Are you interested in higher standards?
At PC, we hold ourselves to higher standards, standards of honesty and of what is right and wrong. And nowhere are those standards more apparent than in our Honor Code. This promise -- signed by everyone here -- not to lie, cheat, or steal is at the heart of the PC community, and it's something everyone takes very seriously. It's the source of that sense of trust you feel on campus -- among students and between students and professors.
Are you interested in making a difference?
"While we live, we serve." That's what we live by every day. On average, about 475 students serve as active volunteer students working with all kinds of people -- from pre-schoolers to teens to the elderly. At the center of this service is the Student Volunteer Services (SVS) organization, which will put you face-to-face with people you can help. Imagine the impact you can have on people's lives by spending four years working with them, playing with them, and helping them.
Go to college and make a difference in yourself. Go to PC and make a difference in others.
Are you interested in having fun?
There's a time for studying, and then there's a time for playing. Between the Student Union Board and the Multicultural Student Union, both organizing all kinds of events -- comedians, bands, movies, wilderness trips, mixers, you name it -- you're never at a loss for something to do.
But these are just the "official" good times. You've also got Greenville or Columbia for shopping, concerts, and other events. Plus, PC is in a prime spot for off-campus fun. Beaches to the east. Mountains to the north. Whitewater to the northwest. Atlanta to the west. And outlet malls all along the way.
