Here's a list of things to consider and keep in mind as you go through the financial aid process.
Applying for financial aid
FAFSA applications should be submitted after January 1 and before March 1 to meet the priority funding date for PC's need-based funds.
Presbyterian College's FAFSA code number is 003445.
Remember to make personal copies of all the forms you submit.
Carefully review any requests for additional information and respond to each request as quickly as possible.
No official award letter will be issued unless you have first been granted admission to Presbyterian College.
Once you've received your financial-aid package
Financial aid awarded by PC and federal funds administered through PC are credited to your account, half for Fall Term and half for Spring Term. The only exception is the Work-Study Program, which pays students directly by check each pay period for the hours they've worked.
Many need- and merit-based awards are renewable annually based on academic achievement or participation in a scholarship area like sports or music. In most instances, renewal is not automatic and amounts can vary with need and funds available.
If you receive a private scholarship from an external source (such as a civic organization, your church, or a parent's employer) and you have already been awarded a need-based financial aid package from Presbyterian College, that package may be reduced if the addition of your private scholarship exceeds either your financial need or the cost to attend PC.
All students must make satisfactory academic progress to remain eligible for assistance from federal, state, and institutional sources. You are considered to be making satisfactory progress if you have met PC's academic and course requirements for your discipline and if you are eligible to continue pursuing your degree during the regular academic year.
Researching other financial-aid options
Take the time to investigate as many sources of financial aid as possible. It will be time well spent. The following Web sites are good places to start:
CollegeNet
Fast Web
Scholarship Resource Network.
Be wary of commercial scholarship search services that charge a participation fee. Much of the information you're paying for is available from your guidance counselor or local library.
Study the financial aid chart in PC's Financial Aid Handbook carefully. It describes a variety of financial aid options, including information about how to apply for each.
