Last semester Ashley McCollum, a junior at PC, went to New York City to visit best friend and PC classmate, Janna Cone, who was interning at Vera Wang at the time. The day before Thanksgiving, McCollum and Cone made their way to the front of Rockefeller Center’s TODAY Plaza stage to see a concert. McCollum had more on her mind than seeing Natasha Bedingfield and Sean Kingston.
Alum is state's youngest mayor
Jeffrey Graham was recently elected mayor of Camden, becoming the youngest mayor in South Carolina. The 26-year-old Graham, who graduated from PC only three years ago, defeated an eight-year incumbent to win the position.
Student to present on Capitol Hill
Carly Eargle ’09 has been invited to Capitol Hill, where she will present research as part of the Council on Undergraduate Research’s “Posters on the Hill” event on May 5. Approximately 60 undergraduates from across the country were invited to participate.
Alum is Hong Kong bank executive
“How I got to Hong Kong originally is a story in serendipity, but a great lesson in proactive career management,” said Tracy Doolittle ’93.
Doolittle now works as the Global Head of Market Development for a division of Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, or HSBC, the world’s largest bank by market capital. She oversees all marketing, PR, media, advertising, and other communications and research responsibilities.
Alum plays basketball for Washington Generals
Grant Herren, former standout for the Blue Hose basketball team, now gets plenty of playing time facing the Harlem Globetrotters as a member of the Washington Generals.
“It’s one of the most exciting things I can imagine doing right out of college,” Herren said. “I get to play in NBA and college arenas and see the world.”
"My internship was focused in the sales department at the corporate headquarters of Vera Wang, although I had the opportunity to learn, work in, and witness many other facets of the corporation such as design and production," Janna said. "It was an incredible experience in which I learned such invaluable information that will surely help me in the future."
Alum named state's optometrist of the year
Dr. Melissa Schwebach ’99 was awarded South Carolina's Young Optometrist of the Year at a recent meeting of the S.C. Optometric Association. This award recognizes exemplary involvement in service to Optometry, service to the visual welfare of the public, and public service within ten years of graduation from optometry school.
Jim Samples ’85 has been named president of Home and Garden Television. At HGTV, Samples is responsible for the overall creation of the network that has over 95 million household subscribers.
