The Office of the Chaplain seeks to nurture the religious and spiritual life of the Presbyterian College community while creating and supporting opportunities for worship, fellowship, and service. As a college related to the Presbyterian Church (USA), Presbyterian College supports a very active and ecumenical ministry in which there is a strong witness to Christian faith and service, a challenge to explore and examine one's own spiritual journey, and a campus environment of hospitality and dialogue-one which values diversity and differences in tradition and faith perspectives.
Chaplain-sponsored ministries seek to be open and inclusive of all students, regardless of religious affiliation. Religious life at Presbyterian College is celebrated on the premise that we are all children of God, whatever our creed, heritage, or beliefs. PC’s Chaplain serves as a pastor to a wider college community. He is available to people form any faith tradition, or none at all, for pastoral conversations, counseling, spiritual direction, and program leadership and support. He can also suggest consultation with a clinically trained therapist when it might be a helpful option.
Students are given opportunities to develop their own religious beliefs by voluntarily taking part in regular campus chapel services, fellowship groups and spiritual retreats. Regular worship services are conducted in Edmunds Hall and at the outdoor chapel. Students assist the Chaplain in planning and leading all services. As an expression of its faith tradition and church relationship, Presbyterian College is committed to helping students understand the needs of the world and to translate that understanding into effective service and social action through Student Volunteer Services. Religious organizations include Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Canterbury Club, Newman Club, Campus Outreach, and Westminster Fellowship. Other ministries and services include: Bluefish (student ministry team), Soul Feast (dinner and discussion group), Moveable Feast (ecumenical initiative), At the Well (women in ministry initiative), Common Grounds, and F.A.I.T.H. (Fostering Artistic Insights Towards the Holy). |
