The Rouses

"Presbyterian College offers every student ample opportunity in diverse areas to become involved in campus life ... One of PC's strengths is that there is a place for every student to be involved and no one area is more important than the other."

-Robert & Beth Rouse, Mobile, AL (daughter-Elizabeth Rouse ’06)

Special Academic Programs

Study Abroad

Students at Presbyterian College are encouraged to incorporate international aspects of education into their academic plans. While studying abroad requires careful thought and planning, the rewards of living and studying in another culture can be life changing. The Office of International Programs assists students in identifying overseas opportunities that, when successfully completed, can provide credit towards graduation and in some cases towards the student’s major.

For students interested in studying abroad, PC offers a variety of opportunities in a number of foreign countries. PC invests time and effort into identifying programs and overseas institutions with academic standards and educational objectives that meet the need of our students. Each year students have the opportunity to study in Australia, Austria, Central America, China, England, France, Germany, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, Wales, South Korea, South Africa, Finland, and Washington, DC. In addition, juniors and seniors have the ability to participate in a Term-in-China or a Term-in-India, which are offered in conjunction with the South Atlantic States Association for Asian and African Studies.

Summer in Oxford

Presbyterian College also offers a summer program that is taught by PC professors at Oxford University’s Corpus Christi College in England. This three-week course includes studies of two subjects in addition to travel and field trips in England.

Flexicourses

Presbyterian College offers special courses through various departments during an optional May period. These three-week courses provide students with off-campus educational experiences in the continental United States and in various locations around the world, including Mexico, Guatemala, the Caribbean, the Galapagos Islands, Vietnam, China, Hawaii, and Europe. Honors Program

Presbyterian College offers an Honors Program to selected students which includes three principal parts: the Dean’s Seminar for freshmen, the Seminars in Great Ideas, and Departmental Honors Research. The Honors Program consists of approximately 15 Dean selected students, chosen for their superior academic achievement, recommendations, and interviews.

Upon approval by departmental faculty, students with a cumulative 3.2 GPA and a 3.4 GPA in their major field of study may participate in an Honors Research Project during their senior year. Students who successfully complete departmental research, a written report, and an oral presentation graduate with honors in their major discipline.
