Message from Jessica Blount, Development Associate

A big Blue Hose thank you goes to all who attended and helped make An Evening in Charlotte this past Tuesday night a great success. More than sixty guests gathered at The Charlotte City Club for an affair to remember.

PC family joined on a sunny night in North Carolina beside warm music to enjoy lovely hors d' oeuvres and beverages and hear a message from special guests Dr. John V. Griffith, and head women’s basketball coach Jessica Vanco about exciting campus news.

The formal program included words from a variety of PC faces. Bob Staton, Executive Vice President for External Relations ‘68, welcomed David and Toni Atchley, Jim and Carla Gambrell ‘75, John and Peg Morrison ‘65, Harold and Jane Hope ‘63, and Doug and Lynn Sanders. Staton gave the invocation and introduced President Griffith.

Dr. Griffith's message focused on Deuteronomy's charge and our responsibilities to extend educational opportunities to the next generation PC. He described the many successes of PC graduates, remarkable building progress, and tasks still to come for facilities, people, and programs. Dr. Griffith's inspiring words left all gathered with a challenge and a vision for the future.

As the Blue Hose look ahead, Coach Jessica Vanco showed that athletics are ready for the Division I move. In her address, Coach Vanco shared the exciting schedule challenges to come and the participation need for all members of the PC family.

The speaking program ended with Bob Staton’s stirring remarks. He reminded us that we are heirs to cities we did not build, and that our education is a gift that enables us to serve others. Staton encouraged everyone to recruit new students for PC, participate in the PC fund, be visible at PC events, and help with the science building, scholarships, and faculty compensation.

As guests mingled, graduates of yesterday and today met with faculty and staff, current students, and friends of PC. Congratulations to our door prize winners: Chris Dickerson ’02, Allison Smith ’92, and Ed Young. Thank you to all who worked hard to create such a beautiful occasion and all of the PC faculty and staff involved. We appreciate you giving your time and energies to make this night a great success!
