See photos from An Evening in Atlanta
A big Blue Hose thank you goes to all who attended and helped make An Evening in Atlanta this past Tuesday night a great success. More than two hundred guests gathered at The Capital City Club, Brookhaven, for an affair to remember.
PC family joined on a rainy night in Georgia beside warm fires and jazz ensemble to enjoy lovely hors d' oeuvres and beverages and hear a message from special guests Dr. John V. Griffith and new head football coach Bobby Bentley about exciting campus news.
The formal program included words from a variety of PC faces. David Atchley, new Vice President of Advancement, welcomed hosts Kay and Brad Bryant '75, Ellen '83 and John D'Andrea '81, Marianne and E.G. Lassiter '69, Martha and Bill Scott '69, Anne and Bill Shearer '64, and Missy and Jim Watson '80. He extended a special thank you to Addison Meriwether '97, coordinator of venue, for his help promoting alumni activity in the area. David thanked Chairman of the Board of Trustees and host Mr. Bill Shearer, who gave the invocation and introduced President Griffith.
Dr. Griffith's message focused on Deuteronomy's charge and our responsibilities to extend educational opportunities to the next generation PC. He described the many successes of PC graduates, remarkable building progress, and tasks still to come for facilities, people, and programs. Dr. Griffith's inspiring words left all gathered with a challenge and a vision for the future.
As the Blue Hose look ahead, new head football coach Bobby Bentley '09 shows that he is ready for the Division I move. In his address, Coach Bentley shared the importance of both lessons learned on the field and academics. He is ready to take the program from good to great in the years to come.
The speaking program ended with Bill Shearer's stirring remarks. He reminded us that we are heirs to cities we did not build, and that our education is a gift that enables us to serve others. Mr. Shearer encouraged everyone to recruit new students for PC, participate in the PC fund, be visible at PC events, and help with the science building, scholarships, and faculty compensation.
As guests mingled, graduates of yesterday and today met with faculty and staff, current students, and friends of PC. Congratulations to our door prize winners: Virginia Cowden, Bill and Roban Everett, Vicki and David Massey, and Jim and Missy Watson. Thank you to all who worked hard to create such a beautiful occasion including musicians - Dr. Tim Kintzinger, Trey Bures '10, and Jess Isley '09, - students Elisabeth Behringer '07, Tripp Rush '09, Justine Schwindel '08, and all of the PC faculty and staff involved. Thank you for giving your time and energies to make this night a great success!
