BLUE HOSE BASEBALL PLACES THREE TOABCA ALL-SOUTH REGION BASEBALL TEAM

Bouknight & Teal named first team; Richie selected to second team

CLINTON, SC — Blue Hose baseball players Ty Bouknight, Brian Richie, and Brad Teal have been named to the ABCA All-South Region baseball team announced today by selection officials.

Bouknight, a 5-10, 170-pound senior outfielder from Leesville, S.C., was named to the first team after leading the team with 18 stolen bases, a .532 slugging percentage, and seven homeruns while finishing second in batting average (.348), doubles (18), and triples (2). Bouknight was named first team All-South Atlantic Conference after finshing fifth in stolen bases and eight in RBI’s (52) in the final SAC statistics.

Teal, a 5-11, 185-pound senior catcher from Lawrenceville, GA,was named to the first team after posting a career-best .330 batting average while finishing tied for second in homeruns (6), and tied for third in RBI’s (46). Teal, one of the best defensive catchers in the region, posted a .939 fielding percentage and  threw out 49.2% (31-of-63) baserunners this season. He was also named to the first team All-SAC squad this season.

Richie, a 5-11, 190-pound senior outfielder from Irmo, S.C., was named to the second team after having a breakout season in 2000. Richie led the team in batting average (.356), finished second in total basese (107), tied for third in doubles (16), and led the team with 61 runs scored. Richie, a first team All-SAC performer in 2000, posted a .522 slugging percentage and his runs scored total ranks fourth best in the program’s single-season history.

The Blue Hose are coming off another successful season, finishing 37-20 overall and 13-9 in the SAC regular season good for fifth place. The 37-wins is the second most in program history after the 1998 squad that posted a 40-20 overall record. PC barely missed the NCAA postseason finishing fifth in the region. The 30 wins marks the third straight season at the Blue Hose have eclipsed the 30-win plateau.
