PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Presbyterian’s Burns wins third straight pitcher of the Week Award Mars Hill’s Philemon named position player of the Week

ROCK HILL, SC — Presbyterian College’s Michael Burns was named the SAC Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive time, and Mars Hill College’s Nick Philemon was selected as the SAC Position Player of the Week, conference officials announced today.

Burns, a 6-0, 170-pound senior left-handed pitcher from Simpsonville, SC (Hillcrest HS) picked up his fourth complete game win in four starts this season in PC’s 5-0 win over Limestone College on Saturday.  In the win, Burns allowed four hits, and no runs while striking out a season-high 11 batters.   Burns lowered his season earned run average to 0.26 and now is averaging 6.9 strikeouts per nine innings.  Burns now has 21 career wins, which ranks third in Blue Hose history.  He needs three more wins to pass former All-SAC standout Jeremy Joyner for first place in program history.  Burns also broke the program’s single-season shutout mark with his 5-0 win over Limestone College.  He now has three shutouts on the season.

Philemon, a 6-0, 170-pound junior shortstop from Greensboro, NC (Ragsdale HS) led the Lions to a 3-1 record last week.  He hit .529 with two doubles, two RBI, and a triple.  He obtained a .556 on-base percentage and committed only one error in 16 chances at shortstop.  Philemon capped off the week going a perfect 4-for-4 against Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.  Philemon is leading the team in hitting with a .424 batting average.  This was the first time Philemon has won the award.

The SAC Baseball Player’s of the Week are determined by a vote of the league’s eight sports information directors.
