BLUE
HOSE BASEBALL SIGNS FIVE DURING EARLY SIGNING
PERIOD
CLINTON,
SC Presbyterian College baseball announces the signing
of Matt
Bodie, Matt Boone, Ryan Jones, Jake
Lunnen, and Zach Matthews to a national letter of intent today by eighth-year
head coach Doug
Kovash.
Bodie, a 6-1, 170-pound
right-handed pitcher, is a native of Aiken, SC
where he plays at South Aiken High School where he
played for head coach
Steve DeRiggs. Bodie is a versatile player who
could see time at catcher and in the outfield.
Boone, a 6-3, 180-pound
right-handed pitcher, is a native of Kernersville,
NC where he plays at Glenn High School for head
coach Dale
Ijames. Boone brings good control of his
pitches and throws in the high 80s.
Jones, a 6-0, 180-pound
right-handed pitcher, is a native of
Lawrenceville, GA where he plays at Brookwood High
School for head coach Doug
Jones. Jones is a hard thrower (86-88 mph)
with a tight curve and has tremendous potential.
Brookwood High School is the alma mater of former
Blue Hose standout Brad
Teal.
Lunnen, a 6-0, 210-pound
right-hander, is a native of Sylva, NC where he
plays at Smokey Mountain High School for head
coach Tim
Hawkins. Lunnen has a good fastball (84-86
mph) and has control of three other pitches. He
will be asked to contribute immediately.
Matthews, a 6-1, 180-pound
left-handed pitcher, is a native of Batesburg, SC
where he plays at King Academy for head coach Mike
Prochaska. Matthews is a crafty lefty
who pitches similar to current Blue Hose standout Mike
Burns, says Kovash.
We are extremely excited
with the number and quality of this early signing
recruiting class, said Kovash. We graduate
two left-handers and two right-handers and have
filled out needs for quality right-handed pitchers
who can pitch for us right away. Zach Matthews
is a crafty lefty who will pitch for us some and
with five pitchers signed in November, we have
just one left-hander to sign this spring.
Presbyterian is coming off a 37-20 overall record
this past spring including a 13-9 mark in the
South Atlantic Conference regular season.
