2000 SUMMER SEES A RECORD NUMBER OF
PLAYERS PLAYING COMPETITIVE SUMMER BASEBALL

The summer of ’99 saw 10 players competing against good competition.  The summer of 2000 – we doubled that number.  With 7 departed seniors and Matt Martunas signing with the Devil Rays – playing time is wide open – and the following 20 players will have an edge this fall.

 

  • (LHP)  Matt Martunas (Winchester, VA) -Valley League. 

  • (RHP)  Kevin Felts (Winchester, VA) - Valley League

  • (LHP)  Michael Burns (Winchester, VA) - Valley League. All-Star Game appearance.

  • (OF) James Gritter (Washington, DC) - Clark Griffith Collegiate League.

  • (3B/RHP)  Davis Rice (Washington, DC) - Clark Griffith Collegiate League.

  • (LHP)  Mike Noble (Charlotte, NC) - Southern Collegiate Baseball League. All-Star Game appearance.

  • (LHP) Travis Hill (Charlotte, NC) - Southern Collegiate Baseball League. All-Star Game appearance

  • (1B) Matt Warren (Charlotte, NC) - Southern Collegiate Baseball League – 2nd year in a row. 

  • (RHP)  Charles Assey (Edenton, NC) - Coastal Plains League. 

  • (OF) Chris Turco (Atlanta, GA) - Stan Musial League.

  • (1B/RHP)  Brian Prahl (Atlanta, GA) - Stan Musial League.

  • (C) Kenny Campbell (Atlanta, GA) - Stan Musial League.

  • (C) Jay Leonard (Atlanta, GA) - Stan Musial League.

  • (SS) Dusty New (Greenwood, SC) - Greenwood American Legion. 

  • (RHP)  Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) - Sumter American Legion. 

  • (RHP/1B) Todd Warren (Newberry, SC) - Newberry American Legion.

  • (C) Joey Grimes (St. Petersburg, FL) - Stan Musial League.

  • (RHP)  Kurt Hitzeman (Dallas, TX) - Southwestern Collegiate Baseball League.  All-Star Game appearance.

  • (INF/OF) Tombo Hite (Dallas, TX & USA International Baseball) - Southwestern Collegiate Baseball League and traveled throughout Germany.

  • (RHP)  Mark Dudley (Athletes In Action, USA) - toured the East Coast played in Mexico.
