BLUE HOSE BASEBALL DROPS SEASON OPENER TO BARRY UNIVERSITY IN THE NORTH FLORIDA INVITATIONAL

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Presbyterian College baseball opened the 2001 campaign with a loss to Barry University 9-2 in the second game of the North Florida Invitational tonight at Harmon Stadium in Jacksonville, FL.

Barry got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on an Alex Lorenzo double to left field to score Luis Boullon.  The Blue Hose fought right back in the top of the fourth when junior first baseman Keagan Broussard (Virginia Beach, VA) walked and later scored on  sophomore shortstop Tombo Hite’s (Abbeville, SC) double to left center field to tie the game at 1.  Later in the same inning, Hite scored off of sophomore designated hitter Heath McCutcheon’s (Newberry, SC) single to center field and PC took a 2-1 lead.  The lead would disappear later in the fourth inning on a double to right center off the bat of Henry Owen to score teammate Joglys Ramos from second and tie the game at 2.  Barry took the lead in the fifth inning on a fielder’s choice and would not look back and go on to win 9-2.

The Blue Hose were led by Broussard who went two-for-three with a walk and scored a run.  Junior pitcher Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) picks up the loss after going 5.0 innings allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four.

PC (0-1) will return to action tomorrow to face the host school University on North Florida (1-0) who beat St. Leo in the opening game of the tournament 4-3.  Game time is set for 4:00pm.
