CATAWBA DROPS 14-10 DECISION TO PC

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College lost a slugfest with the visiting Presbyterian College Blue Hose Sunday 10-14 in South Atlantic Conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at Newman Park.  Presbyterian pounded out 16 hits to the Indians 15.  Catawba tried to rally, scoring six runs in the last three innings, but it was not enough.  The Indians fall to 22-11 overall, 7-4 in the SAC, while the Blue Hose move to 19-18 overall, 5-6.

The Indians opened the game scoring in the bottom half of the first after a couple of infield singles by O.J. Lennon (Greensboro, NC) and Curt Motsinger (Kernersville, NC).  But PC would post five runs in the third, and four in the fifth and sixth innings, highlighted by Brian Prahl's (Peachtree City, GA) grand slam in the fifth.

Catawba would bring eight batters to the plate in the bottom of
the eighth, after RBI singles by Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) and Lennon, but could only score three runs.  Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) pitched five strong innings in relief to get the victory and Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) came into the game in the ninth to record the final three outs.
