HOSE BLAST FLYING FLEET 15-1 IN BASEBALL ACTION CLINTON,
SC Presbyterian College freshman right fielder Kevin
White (Spartanburg, SC) went three-for-four with three
RBIs and a homerun to lead the Blue Hose to a 15-1 victory
over Erskine College in baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Hose sent 23
different batters to the plate today and tallied 15 runs on 20
hits. After taking a 1-0 lead in
the first, PC exploded for eight runs in the second to take a
commanding 9-0 lead. The inning was highlighted by eight runs
on seven hits including a two-run homer by White. The Blue Hose three runs in
the third and sixth innings while the Flying Fleet were held
to one run in the fifth inning. PCs sophomore pitcher Richard
Barkley (Sumter, SC) picked up the win to improve to
1-2 on the season after pitching five innings allowing one run
on five hits while striking out batters. Senior pitcher Mike
Noble (Spartanburg, SC) picked up his second save of
the season after pitching three innings of hitless baseball. Erskine sent five different
pitchers to the mound to silence the Blue Hose batters, but to
no avail. Freshman starting pitcher Matt
Powell (Anderson, SC) dropped his record to 2-2 on the
season after going one inning allowing five runs, all earned
on seven hits. At the plate, PC was led by
sophomore shortstop Brian
Grimm (Spartanburg, SC) who went three-for-five and
redshirt sophomore Joseph Bishop (Greenwood,
SC) who came off the bench to go three-for-three at the plate.
Junior outfielder Chris Turco (Marietta, GA)
continued his stellar play at the plate going two-for-four
with two RBIs. Junior
designated hitter Heath
McCutcheon (Newberry, SC) added two hits including a
double. Erskine was led at the
plate by sophomore outfielder Alex
Lewis (Columbia, SC) and second baseman Brian
Meholick who each picked up a pair of hits. The Blue Hose improve to
12-11 on the season while the Flying Fleet fall to 10-10. |
