PRESBYTERIAN & LENOIR-RHYNE SPLIT 
SAC BASEBALL DOUBLEHEADER
Bears claim game #1 20-1, while Blue Hose win game #2 10-7

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian College and Lenoir-Rhyne College spilt a doubleheader in South Atlantic Conference baseball Monday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The series was to be a battle for first place in the SAC regular season after Lenoir-Rhyne was picked first in the preseason coaches poll and the Blue Hose were second.

GAME #1 — Lenoir-Rhyne 20, Presbyterian 1

The first game saw the Bears offense explode for 20 runs on 22 hits including six homeruns. Lenoir-Rhyne got a pair of homeruns from junior pitcher Israel Campbell (Stony Point, NC) and junior right fielder Joe Nichols (West Chester, PA). In addition, Campbell went the distance on the mound, pitching nine innings allowing one run on 10 hits while striking out three batters. At the plate, Campbell went two-for-six with two RBI’s.

Presbyterian’s senior pitcher Michael Burns (Simpsonville, SC) took the loss to drop to 4-2 on the season after going four and one-thirds innings allowing eight runs, seven earned on nine hits.

GAME #2 — Presbyterian 10, Lenoir-Rhyne 7

The Blue Hose fought back in the second game as four batters picked up a pair of hits apiece as PC picked up a split of games today by winning 10-7. PC’s junior outfielder Chris Turco (Marietta, GA), freshman outfielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC), junior designated hitter Heath McCutcheon (Newberry, SC), and sophomore third baseman Davis Rice (Clinton, SC) each picked up a pair of hits in the Blue Hose victory. On the mound, PC’s senior Kevin Felts (Winston-Salem, NC) improved to 4-0 on the season after going six and two-third innings allowing seven runs on 10 hits while striking out four batters. PC’s sophomore Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) picked up the save.

Lenoir-Rhyne was led by Campbell and Nichols who each hit a homerun in the second game. Campbell’s homer was his third of the day. Bears starting pitcher senior Michael Clontz (Hickory, NC) dropped to 2-3 on the season after going three and one-third innings allowing seven runs on eight hits.

Lenoir-Rhyne improves 9-7 overall, 1-1 in the SAC while Presbyterian improves to 11-11 overall and 1-1 in the SAC.
