BLUE HOSE SLIP PAST SENATORS 2-1 IN BASEBALL ACTION
PC’s Hurst scores on squeeze play in bottom of eighth 
to lift Blue Hose to win

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian junior outfielder Keagan Broussard’s (Virginia Beach, VA) squeeze bunt scored the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth to give the Blue Hose a 2-1 win over Lander University in baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

Broussard’s squeeze bunt scored junior second baseman Brad Hurst (Greer, SC) to break a 1-1 tie and give the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead entering the ninth. The game ended with Blue Hose relief pitcher sophomore right-hander Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) retiring the side to end the game and pick up his first save of the season.

Presbyterian got on the scoreboard first, as junior first baseman Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) RBI single scored Broussard in the bottom of the first inning. The Senators pulled even in the next inning as junior outfielder Lucas Erwin (W. Columbia, SC) homered to tie the game at 1-1.

The game stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth as both starting pitchers held both teams off the scoreboard. PC’s sophomore right-hander Kurt Hitzeman (Americus, GA) pitched eight innings allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out four batters. Hitzeman evens his record at 1-1 on the season with the win. The Senators starting pitcher, sophomore right-hander Grant Smith (0-1) (Gainesville, VA) went the distance, allowing two runs, one earned on five hits and striking out three batters.

Presbyterian improves to 3-4 on the season while Lander suffers their first setback of the season and falls to 3-1.
