PC STAYS ALIVE
WITH WIN IN EARLY ELIMINATION GAMES
NEWBERRY,
S.C. -- The No. 3
seed Presbyterian College stayed alive in the 2001 Food Lion
South Atlantic Conference Baseball Tournament with win in the
early elimination game played on Friday at Bill Harvey Field.
PC (29-24)
scored four times in the top of the ninth to rally for the
win. The Blue Hose trailed Mars Hill (15-22) 10-9 entering the
final inning. Chris Turco, who went 2-for-6 with 3 RBI,
tied the game at 10 with an RBI single. PC took the lead for
good on a RBI fielders choice by Keagan Broussard,
who had 2 RBI. The Blue Hoses final two runs were scored on
a wild pitch by Josh Martz (2-7) and a Mars Hill
fielding error.
PC reliever Mike
Noble earned his third save of the season as he pitched a
1-2-3 bottom half of the ninth. Richard Barkley picked
up the win in relief and improved to 5-2.
Logan
Flynn, Nick Philemon and Greg Mulhollen each
had three hits for the Mars Hill. Mulhollen, who drove in
three runs, had a solo homer -- his eighth of the season -- in
the second. Philemon had his solo homer in the first.
Dusty New
had three hits for the Blue Hose, while Matt Warren,
who went 2-for-4, had 3 RBI.
