PC BASEBALL PICKS UP FIRST WIN OF 2001 SEASON OVER
SAINT LEO 4-0
Burns goes the distant to record the shutout

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Senior pitcher Michael Burns  (Simpsonville, SC) picks up his first win of the 2001 season with a complete game shutout of Saint Leo University in the final day of the North Florida Invitational.

Burns gave up eight hits, two walks, and recorded three strikeouts to lead the Blue Hose to the win.

PC wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when center fielder Chris Turco (Mareitta, GA) led off the game with a hit by pitch and later scored on sophomore third baseman Davis Rice’s (Clinton, SC) triple to center field to put the Blue Hose up 1-0.  Freshman right fielder Kevin White (Honea Path, SC) singled to shortstop to drive in Rice and make the score 2-0.  PC picked up single runs in the third and sixth innings to give Burns a comfortable lead to work with.  For the Lions, junior pitcher Josh Neitz (Tampa, FL) records the loss and falls to 0-1 on the season.

At the plate, the Blue Hose were lead by White and Rice both who went two-for-four with White driving in two RBI’s and Rice picking up one RBI.   The Blue Hose finished the game with seven hits.

Both Presbyterian and Saint Leo finished the tournament with a 1-2 record. PC will return to action next Saturday for their home opener doubleheader against Brevard College.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
