Steppe's home run lifts North Florida past Presbyterian 1-0

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Senior left fielder Nick Steppe's solo home run in the sixth inning propelled the No. 2-ranked University of North Florida Ospreys past Presbyterian College 1-0 at Harmon Stadium.

Tod Ewasko (1-0) and Mike Wood combined for the shutout, as UNF improved to 2-0. Ewasko went 7.2 innings, allowing six runs and striking out six, and Mike Wood recorded his second save in as many games, going 1.1 innings and allowing only one hit and striking out three.

Kurt Hitzeman (0-1) took the loss for No. 29-ranked Presbyterian (0-2). He went 7.1 innings and allowed the one run on seven hits, while striking out three.

Brian Rapp picked up two hits, including a double, for the Ospreys.

Dusty New led the Blue Hose at the plate, with a pair of hits.

UNF returns to action on Sunday, as the Ospreys host the Barry University Buccaneers at 3 p.m. Saint Leo will face Presbyterian at 11 a.m. 

In other UNF Invitational action today, Saint Leo University downed Barry University 11-8, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth on a home run by Trevor Hall.
