CRUISE PAST BLUE HOSE 9-4 IN BASEBALL ACTION CLINTON,
SC USC-Aikens senior second baseman Butch Martin (Gallatin, TN) and senior first baseman David
Gillespie (Gallatin, TN) each tallied a homerun and three
RBIs to lead the Pacers to a 9-4 win over Presbyterian
College in baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The Pacers found themselves
down 3-2 entering the fourth inning, but erupted for seven
runs in the top of the inning to take a commanding 9-3. Martin
led off the inning with a solo homerun and USC Aiken took
advantage of a pair of Blue Hose errors to take their first
lead of the game. PC was able to add only one run down the
stretch to cut the lead to 9-4. USC Aikens relief
pitcher freshman Jerod
Summer (Cayce, SC) picked up his first win of the season
after coming in to pitch three and two-thirds innings allowing
only hit. Starting pitcher freshman Lee Cromer (Anderson, SC) went two and one-third innings allowing
three runs, two earned on three hits. PCs starting pitcher
junior Mark
Dudley (Cayce, SC) took the loss to drop to 0-3 on the
season after going four innings allowing nine runs, eight
earned on 10 hits. The Blue Hose were led at
the plate by junior first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington ,SC) who went two-for-four on the
day while junior centerfielder Chris
Turco (Marietta, GA) went two-for-five at the plate. The Pacers were led by
Martin who went three-for-five on the day while teammate
Gillespie went one-for-three. USC Aiken improves to 7-3
on the season while the Blue Hose fall to 8-6. PC returns to action
tomorrow as they host the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan
University at 2:00 pm. The Pacers return to action this
weekend as they travel to Jacksonville, FL for a Peach Belt
Conference three-game series with University of North Florida. |
