HOSE ESCAPE BY WEST VIRGINIA STATE 3-2 CLINTON,
SC -- The Presbyterian College baseball team narrowly
escaped the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State College 3-2
today in collegiate baseball action at the Presbyterian
College Baseball Complex. PC took a quick 2-0 lead in
the bottom of the first inning on couple of RBI singles by
sophomore first baseman Matt
Warren (Lexington, SC) and freshman right fielder Kevin
White (Spartanburg, SC).
West Virginia State would
answer back with single runs in the second and fourth innings
highlighted by an RBI sacrifice fly by Dale
Johnson (W. Columbia, WV) to score teammate Jacob
Short (Huntington, WV) in the second inning and a Johnson
RBI single in the fourth to tie the game at two. The game would stay tied
until the ninth inning. In
the top half, WVSC threaten to score with two outs and a
runner on second when junior first baseman Scott
Patterson (Oak Dale, PA) hit a Mike
Noble (Spartanburg, SC) fastball back up the middle
that PC shortstop Brian Grimm (Spartanburg,
SC) dove, stopped, and threw to first to get Patterson at
first after Warren made a great scope to end the inning and
the rally. Grimm led off the top of
the inning with a walk. After
a couple of WVSC errors loaded the bases, Grimm walked home on
a wild pitch by freshman reliever Ryan Hall that gave the Blue
Hose a 3-2 win. WVSC was led at the plate
by junior first baseman Jean-Gilles Larocrue (Garson,
Ontario) and junior catcher George Parker (Northfield,
NJ) who each had a pair of hits. Picking up the loss for the Yellow Jackets was sophomore
reliever Tim Shilling (St. Albans, WV) who was in
relief of starting pitcher senior Jeremy King
(Winfield, WV). For the Blue Hose, Noble
records his first win of the season while pitching one inning
and allowing only one hit.
At the plate PC was led by Warren who went two-for-four
including a double and an RBI. |
