PC’S WHITE NAMED TO NCBWA DIVISION II
SOUTH REGION PLAYER OF THE YEAR

CHICAGO, Ill. — Presbyterian College baseball player Kevin White (Spartanburg, S.C.) has been named to the inaugural National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II South Region Player of the Year announced today by school officials.

Nomination and voting for the initial awards was conducted online by media and collegiate members of the NCBWA. Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball and membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport.

White, a 6-2, 185-pound sophomore outfielder and graduate of Spartanburg High School, was named the South Region Player of the Year after leading the team and the South Atlantic Conference in batting average (.425). In addition, he tallied 57 runs scored on 90 hits to go along with 18 doubles, four triples, 18 homeruns, and 72 RBI. In the field, he posted a .966 fielding percentage while finishing the year with a .802 slugging percentage, and a .477 on-base percentage.

For his efforts, White was named to the ABCA second team All-American squad, first team ABCA All-South Region team, All-South Atlantic Conference first team and was selected to the Food Lion/SAC All-Tournament team. In addition, he was named the SAC Player of the week three times during the season. He set several program single-season records this season for homeruns, total bases, RBI, slugging percentage, and batting average.

Earlier this summer, he became only the second Blue Hose baseball player to earn ABCA All-American honors since the program was restarted in the 80’s. Former Blue Hose standout, Gene Gobbel earned second team All-American honors during the 1998 season.
