SAC Baseball Players of the Week Announced
Presbyterian and Lenoir-Rhyne Claim Awards
ROCK HILL, SC – Presbyterian College’s Richard Barkley was named the SAC Pitcher of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne College’s Paul Pope was selected as the SAC Position Player of the Week, conference officials announced today. This is the second consecutive week that Barkley has received the award.
| Barkley, a 6-1, 165-pound junior pitcher from Sumter, SC (Lakewood HS) threw a complete game, one hit shutout, as the Blue Hose prevailed 1-0 over Tusculum College. Barkley gave up an infield single in the first inning to senior right fielder Michael Holt and then went 8.2 innings of no hit baseball. The Blue Hose defense played great behind Barkley making only one error along with some outstanding plays in the outfield. Barkley allowed three walks and struck out eight batters to boost his record to 3-0 on the season. |

Pope,
a 5-9, 210-pound senior designated hitter/outfielder from
Orlando, FL (Boone HS) hit
.545 on the week including two homeruns in the third game of
the series with Newberry.
Pope also scored five times and drove in four runs.
He walked once, had one stolen base and did not strike
out a single time on the weekend.
