PC’S GRITTER, RICE, & WARREN NAMED TO 2002 VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College baseball players James Gritter, Davis Rice, and Matt Warren have been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III College Division Baseball Second Team announced today.

The Blue Hose placed three players on the second team, the most by one school this year. The first and second teams are made up of 11 positions each. Student-athletes selected for Academic All-District honors must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. He must possess at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at his institution.

Gritter, a 6-3, 200-pound senior outfielder from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., hit a career-best .247 with four doubles, 12 RBI, and a .938 fielding percentage. In the classroom, he has a perfect 4.00 GPA while double majoring in Physics and Mathematics.

Rice, a 6-2, 188-pound junior shortstop from Clinton, S.C., hit .323 with three homeruns, 26 RBI, 10 doubles this past season. He missed 21 games due to a knee injury, but still finished second on the team with 114 assists. In the classroom, he has a 3.75 GPA while majoring in Physics.

Warren, a 6-2, 225-pound redshirt junior first baseman from Lexington, S.C., hit .403 with a .632 slugging percentage to go along with eight homeruns, and 51 RBI. In addition, he led the team with a 448 putouts and a .985 fielding percentage en route to second team All-South Atlantic Conference and SAC All-Tournament honors. In the classroom, he has a 3.32 GPA while majoring in Special Education.

The Blue Hose finished the season with a 27-30 overall record, 12-9 mark in the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season, good for second place.
