KNIGHTS HIT PAST BLUE HOSE 5-3 IN BASEBALL ACTION

CLINTON, SC — Saint Andrews College’s junior catcher Casey Clary (Wilmington, NC) went three-for-four at the plate with two RBI’s to lead the Knights to a 5-3 win over Presbyterian College in collegiate baseball action at the PC Baseball Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Clary opened the scoring for the Knights in the third inning with a RBI-single to give Saint Andrews a 2-0 lead. A Blue Hose error led to a pair of runs, both unearned to open the scoring.

The Blue Hose tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning highlighted by a RBI scoring sac fly by junior catcher Kenny Campbell (Roswell, GA) and a RBI-single by junior second baseman Tombo Hite (Abbeville, SC).

The Knights opened a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh with three runs highlighted by a two-RBI double by junior second baseman Jason Catlin (Wilmington, NC). Clary followed with a RBI-single to score the third Knight run of the inning.

The Blue Hose fought back to score one run in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-3 on a RBI-single by senior outfielder Keagan Broussard (Virginia Beach, VA). The Knights were able to turn a double-play later in the inning to silence the final Blue Hose comeback.

Saint Andrews starting pitcher sophomore lefthander Derek Batton (Fayetteville, NC) pitched six and one-third innings allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out five Blue Hose batters. Batton improves to 4-2 on the season.

PC’s relief pitcher freshman Zachary Matthews (Batesburg, SC) took the loss to drop to 0-1 on the season after going two and one-third innings, allowing three runs, two earned on three hits. Starting pitcher junior Kurt Hitzeman (Americus, GA) went three and two-third innings allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out two Knight batters.

Saint Andrews College improves to 12-9 on the season while Presbyterian College falls to 7-12.
