BLUE HOSE BASEBALL AVOIDS SWEEP OF THE KNIGHTS BY WINNING THE SECOND GAME OF THE DOUBLEHEADER 3-2
PC snaps a five game losing streak

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College’s freshman shortstop Kip McAlister (Lewisville, SC) went 4-for-6 on the day with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Blue Hose.  St. Andrews Presbyterian College and Presbyterian College split a pair of game today with the Knights winning game one 8-2 and Presbyterian winning game two 3-2.

GAME 1 – PC 2, SAPC 8

In the first game, St. Andrews took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after a throwing error by Presbyterian and a sacrifice fly to centerfield by senior shortstop J. D. Vidal (Ormond Beach, FL).  

 

The Blue Hose would answer back with solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  Junior catcher Kenny Campbell (Roswell, GA) had an RBI single to rightfield and senior first baseman Keagan Broussard (Virginia Beach, VA) recorded a single up the middle off the shortstops glove to score McAlister from second base to tie the game at 2-2.  

 

The Knights took the lead 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning with a couple of RBI singles by junior rightfielder Rob Slack (Deltona, FL) and senior first baseman Joe Maione (Old Bethpage, NY).  I

 

n the top of the seventh inning the Knights extended their lead with four runs highlighted by junior second baseman Jason Catlin’s (Wilmington, NC) two-RBI single to leftfield.  

 

Maione who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored led the Knights at the plate.  For the Blue Hose, McAlister was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  

 

Junior starting pitcher Kevin Smith (Rochester, NY) went six inning allowing two runs on four hits.  Getting the loss for PC was sophomore starting pitcher Travis Hill (Rock Hill, SC) by giving up four runs on four hits.

GAME 2 – PC 3, SAPC 2

In game two, the Blue Hose got two runs in the third inning as sophomore designated hitter Heath McCutcheon (Newberry, SC) grounded out to second base to score teammate freshman centerfielder Robbie Parrish (Myrtle Beach, SC) from third.  Sophomore rightfielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC), who doubled earlier in the inning, came home on a balk to give Presbyterian a 2-0 lead.  

The Blue Hose added an insurance run in the fourth inning as McAlister had an RBI singled to left field to score freshman third baseman Jonathan Wyman (Duluth, GA) from third. 

The Knight would not go down that easy.  Slack led off the seventh inning with a double down the left field line and junior leftfielder John Rhodes (Wilmington, NC) doubled to right center field to score teammate pinch runner Marc Hammonds (Wadesboro, NC) from second base.  Rhodes would later score on pinch hitter Trent Sheppard’s (Peachland, NC) ground out to shortstop to make it a 3-2 game.  Senior pitcher Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) came in to pitch in the top of the seventh inning with no outs and struck out senior third baseman Vincent Myers (Raeford, NC) to end the game.

Freshman starting pitcher Matt Boone (Kernersville, NC) took a one hitter into the seventh before handing the ball over to Dudley who picks up his first save of the year.  Boone went six plus innings allowing two runs on three hits and struck out five batters.  Senior starting pitcher Chuck Nelson (New Bern, NC) threw three and two-third innings allowing all three runs on seven hits.
