OSPREYS
DEFEAT PRESBYTERIAN 6-5 IN 11 INNINGS
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.
-- The No. 1-ranked University of North Florida Ospreys
swept through The Peach Belt Challenge today defeating
Presbyterian College, 6-5 in 11 innings.
The Ospreys (3-0) took
a 2-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive RBI hits
by Ryan McDonald and Ben Johanning,
scoring Alden Watson and Scott Bridges.
The Blue Hose (0-2) took the lead in the fourth as Tombo
Hite opened with a single to right field before Davis
Rice followed with an RBI double to left field.
Presbyterian would go on to get three more runs in the
inning and take the lead 4-2 after three-and-a-half
innings of play.
Presbyterian added a
run in the eighth and held a 5-2 lead heading into the
bottom of the ninth. Bridges led off for UNF with a
single to right field, then with two outs, Johanning
reached on an error by the shortstop which led two a
double by Ricky Willis to keep the inning going.
With runners at first and third, shortstop Ryan
Knight hit a line drive off the pitcher's glove
which scored Willis and tied the game at five.
Both teams were blanked
until the bottom half of the 11th inning when Knight
came to bat with the bases loaded and hit another ball
off the pitcher, which scored Johanning.
Barry Marquart
picked up his first win of the year for the Ospreys
after throwing two and two-thirds innings, giving up
only one hit. The loss went to Charles
Assey for the Blue Hose throwing only one and
two-thirds giving up one hit and one run.
