TAKE TWO FROM PRESBYTERIAN JEFFERSON
CITY, Tenn.- The Carson-Newman Eagles improved to 23-8 and
6-2 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) as they took two
games from the Presbyterian Blue Hose Saturday afternoon, 10-3
and 15-11. The
first game was a pitching duel through the first seven
innings. PC starter Richard Barkley and C-N starter Matt
Huskey battled all day long as Barkley pitched seven and
one-third innings, striking out six batters. Huskey pitched
six and one-third innings with five strikeouts. The Blue Hose built a 3-2 lead as the Eagles came to the plate in the eighth inning. That was when they exploded for eight runs. The big blow came when Nathan Gravley was intentionally walked to load the bases and to face the number nine hitter- Ryan Haun. The Morristown native blasted a grand slam to left field to give the Eagles the lead. Aaron Shaffer later added a two-run homer to give the Eagles a 10-3 lead. Derrick Collins pitched the final two and two thirds innings to pick up his third win of the season. The
second game was a slugfest as the two teams combined for 26
runs, 31 hits and six errors. Kenny Campbell drove in
five runs for the Blue Hose as he blasted two homeruns, one of
which was a grand slam which came in the sixth inning. Harry
Slater drove in three runs for the Eagles as he hit two
homers on the day. Other Eagles to go yard were Jim Higgins,
Aaron Shaffer and Jason Southerland. The
two teams complete the series Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. |
