COLLEGE SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM CLINTON,
S.C. Presbyterian College picked up a pair of key wins
over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference baseball
action Friday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. The Blue
Hose (15-20, 6-5 SAC) won the first game 2-0 and won the
second game 6-2 over the Indians (19-15, 5-5 SAC). GAME #1 PRESBYTERIAN 2, CATAWBA 0 Presbyterian College junior
pitcher Richard
Barkley (Sumter, SC) threw a complete game one-hitter
while striking out nine batters to lead the Blue Hose to a 2-0
victory over Catawba College in game one. Barkley improves to
4-1 on the season with the victory. The Blue Hose scored both
runs in the first inning on a trio of Indian errors. The game
was highlighted by a pair of outstanding pitching performances
as Catawbas sophomore Zach
Snyder (Lexington, NC) threw a complete game three-hitter
in the loss. Snyder falls to 5-2 on the season while striking
out four Blue Hose batters. The game marked the end to
PCs junior first baseman Matt
Warrens (Lexington, SC) 38-game hitting streak. GAME #2 PRESBYTERIAN 6, CATAWBA 2 Presbyterian College
sophomore outfielder Kevin
White (Spartanburg, SC) went two-for-three with a
homerun and four RBIs to lead the Blue Hose to a 6-2 win
over the Indians to complete the sweep of the Indians. The
Blue Hose got a solid pitching performance from senior Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) who threw a
complete game nine-hitter allowing only two runs. The Blue Hose scored early
in the second on a RBI-single by sophomore third baseman Curtis Bell (Gilbert, SC) to pull
ahead 1-0. The lead increased to 3-0 in the third after a
RBI-double by White and a sacrifice-RBI by redshirt sophomore
designated hitter Heath
McCutcheon (Newberry, SC). The Indians cut the lead to
3-2 in the fourth on a two-run blast by junior shortstop Chad Hill (Bennett, NC). PC responded with a three-run fifth inning
highlighted by a three-run blast by White. Catawba starting pitcher
sophomore Brian Hatley (Salisbury,
NC) dropped to 4-3 on the season after going five innings
allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out four. At
the plate, the Indians were led by Hill who went two-for-three
with two RBIs and freshman designated hitter Matt
Baker (Charlotte, NC) who also went two-for-three on the
day. PCs junior shortstop Tombo
Hite (Abbeville, SC) had a solid performance at the
plate going three-for-three with two runs scored. These two teams will meet
tomorrow at 12 noon in the final game of the three-game
series. |
