CATAWBA BASEBALL WINS GAME THREE 4-2 OVER PRESBYTERIAN

CLINTON, SC -- The Presbyterian College baseball lost to Catawba College 4-2 today at the PC Baseball Complex.  The Indians improves to 20-15, 6-5 SAC while the Blue Hose fall to 15-21, 6-6 SAC.

Catawba’s staring pitcher Chris Abernathy (Claremont, NC) threw six solid innings allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three batters to record his second win of the year.  Freshman Mark Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) came into pitch for the Indians in the seventh inning and allowed only one batter to reach base as he picked up his first save of the season.   

For Presbyterian, freshman pitcher Jake Lunnen (Sylva, NC) started the game and came up one run one six hits in six innings of work.  Sophomore pitcher Travis Hill (Rock Hill, SC) gets the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in two-thirds of an innings work. 

Catawba scored first in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore centerfielder Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) had a sacrifice fly to rightfield to score freshman first baseman Matt Smith (Browns Summitt, NC) from third. 

Presbyterian answered back in the bottom half of the sixth as junior first baseman Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) launched a two outs two-run homerun to left field to give the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead.

The Indians took the lead for good in the top of the seventh innings.  M. Smith had and RBI single to centerfield to score senior rightfielder Curt Motsinger (Kernersville, NC).  Senior second baseman Josh Jordan (Gastonia, NC) had a base loaded single through the left side to score Chad Hill (Bennett, NC) from third and M. Smith scored on a Blue Hose fielding error to give the Indians a 4-2 lead.

The Indians were led by Motsinger, Hill, and Jordan who each had two hits in the game.  PC's Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) led the Blue Hose with two hits.
