SAC BASEBALL RESULTS MARS HILL SPLITS WITH PRESBYTERIAN MARS HILL, NC - Mars Hill College split a SAC baseball double header with Presbyterian College (PC) today. PC won game one 7-4 and then the Lions took game two 12-1. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Presbyterian but inclement weather prevented the teams from competing in Clinton, SC. Since the game was supposed to be played at PC, Mars Hill was the visiting team in the contest. In game one, Mars Hill jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the second inning. The Lions scored a single run in the first and then Logan Flynn (Mars Hill, NC) hit a three-run homerun in the second. PC answered with a single run in the third and then scored four runs in the fourth inning on three hits and two Lion errors. PC would not trail the rest of the game. Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) led the Blue Hose with two homeruns and four RBI. Davis Rice (Clinton, SC) went 4-for-4 with a run scored. Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) picked up the win (5-2) on the mound throwing a complete game allowing four runs on 10 hits. Flynn, Bronson Whiteside (Asheville, NC), and Trinity Phillips (Mars Hill, NC) each recorded two hits in the loss for Mars Hill. Flynn added three RBI. Daniel Stewart (Sarasota, FL) took the loss (3-6) for the Lions throwing seven innings. In game two, Mars Hill jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first and never looked back. Mars Hill scored three runs in the second and fourth innings to lead 9-0 before Tombo Hite (Abbeville, SC) hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lions added three more insurance wins in the fifth. Nick Philemon (Greensboro, NC), Nathan Garrett (Clyde, NC) and Justin Mahon (Ft. Myers, FL) each hit homeruns for Mars Hill in the win. Flynn went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Wes Hardin picked up the win throwing a complete game scattering seven hits and striking out four. Hite and Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) led PC with two hits apiece. Warren also had a double. Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) took the loss (6-3) on the mound for the Blue Hose. The Lions improved to 20-20 overall and an even 8-8 in league play. PC is now 20-25 overall and 8-9 in the SAC. The team will conclude the three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. |
