Saturday, February 9, 2002 BLUE HOSE BASEBALL WINS FIRST TWO
GAMES OF 2002 CLINTON,
SC The Presbyterian College baseball team picked up
its first two wins of the 2002 season today as they defeated
the Buffaloes of Milligan College 8-6 in game one and 7-2 in
game two. PC
junior first baseman Matt Warren
(Lexington, SC) went 4-for-6 at the plate with four runs
scored and two RBI on the day. GAME 1 PC 8, MILLIGAN 6The Buffaloes got five of their six runs from the long ball. Senior first baseman Jeremy Christian (Bristol, TN) hit a three-run homerun in the first inning and senior teammate Chris Archer (Knoxville, TN) hit a two- run homer in the fifth. The Blue Hose used a four run sixth inning to take the lead 7-6. Sophomore Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) had a two-RBI single through the left side to tie the game at 6-6. Warren would later steal home to give PC a 7-6 advantage as Milligan had White in a run down. The Blue Hose added another run in the eighth inning to cap off the scoring. PC was led at the plate by Davis Rice (Clinton, SC), Keagan Broussard (Virginia Beach, VA), and White who all went 2-for-3. White recorded three RBI in the game. Junior pitcher Richard Barkley (Sumter, SC) picked up his first win by throwing seven strong innings while allowing five earned runs, and striking out five batters. Rice moved from the field to the mound to face one batter as he picked up his first save of the season. For the Buffaloes, junior pitcher Josh Ramsey (Kingsport, TN) picked up the loss in relief of starting pitcher junior Dustin Barrett (Tazewell, VA). GAME 2 PC 7, MILLIGAN 2The Blue Hose scored one run in the second inning when junior designated hitter Brian Prahl (Peachtree City, GA) grounded out to the shortstop as Warren scored on the play to give PC a 1-0 lead. PC broke out with four runs in the third inning highlighted by Whites inside the park homerun to right field to give PC a 5-0 advantage. In the fifth inning, Rice tripled to center field as senior centerfielder Chris Turco (Roswell, GA) and senior third baseman Brad Hurst (Greer, SC) scored to give the Blue Hose a 7-0 lead. Milligan would get two runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by senior leftfielder Aaron Thomas (Lafayette, IN) and an RBI single by sophomore shortstop Brad Hitch (Maryville, TN). PC was led at the plate by Hurst (2-for-3), Warren (2-for-3), and Turco (2-for-4). Senior starting pitcher Mark Dudley (Cayce, SC) records his first win of the season on six innings of work allowing two runs and striking out one batter. Milligan junior pitcher Brad Zachritz (Fort Myers, FL) gets the loss after throwing five innings giving up all seven runs and striking out three Blue Hose. The Blue Hose improve to 2-4 on the season as Milligan falls to 0-2. These two teams will meet tomorrow at 2:00 pm to complete the three-game series. |
