GAME 1 – SWU 6, PC 5 (10 innings)

PC put up a single run in the first and fourth inning and two runs in the sixth inning as they led Southern Wesleyan 4-1 after six innings of play.  But the Warriors would come back and tie the game at 4-4 in the seventh inning with two outs junior leftfielder Jason Lisk (Fort Mill, SC) and sophomore third baseman Matt Strader (Fort Mill, SC) scored on a throwing error by PC.  The Blue Hose took the lead at 5-4 with an RBI single by sophomore designated hitter Heath McCutcheon (Newberry, SC) scoring sophomore right fielder Kevin White (Spartanburg, SC) in the bottom of the eight. In the ninth inning, the Warriors tied the game on a bases loaded wild pitch by PC’s freshman pitcher Jake Lunnen (Sylva, NC).  The Blue Hose had a chance to win the game in the top of the ninth but failed on a suicide squeeze bunt with one out.  Southern Wesleyan would take advantage of the mistake in the tenth inning as Strader hit an RBI single to score senior right fielder Mark Graham (Greenville, SC) and give the Warriors the lead for good.

PC was led by McCutcheon (3-for-4 with an RBI), junior first baseman Matt Warren (Lexington, SC) who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and White (1-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored).  Lisk who went 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored led Southern Wesleyan at the plate.  Getting the loss for the Blue Hose was Lunnen who pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out one batter.  Freshman pitcher Leland Miller (Cambridge, MD) records his first win of the season after tossing four innings allowing one unearned run on two hits and striking out two batters.
