Tigers break six-game skid with 9-5 win over Presbyterian

Livingston, AL— The West Alabama Tiger baseball team returned to Tartt Field on Friday to play host to the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College. West Alabama would use some late inning heroics, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, to upend Presbyterian 9-5.

The Tigers would get some help from an uneasy Blue Hose defense that committed six errors on the afternoon. Presbyterian third baseman Brad Hurst would commit the first error of the eighth inning, misplaying a fly ball to jump start the Tiger rally. The big hit came from Freddie Vazquez, who laced a single down the right field line that scored two runs, putting West Alabama up for good.

Freshman Dustin Roberts had an explosive day in his first start as a Tiger, going 2-for-3, including two runs scored. Brodie Meadows also picked up two hits, including an RBI and a run scored. Vazquez and Rob McInturf knocked in two runs apiece to pace the Tiger offensive surge.

Clay Armstrong came in for the starter Chris Dimasi and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit to pick up the win. Dimasi pitched 6.2 innings, scattering five hits while allowing a mere one earned run.

Kevin White led the Blue Hose charge with a 1-for-5 day, including two RBI. Richard Barkley started the game for Presbyterian, going 7.0 innings, allowing only two runs (one earned) and striking out eight Tigers. Brian Prahl picked up the loss, allowing seven runs (two earned) in 0.1 innings.

West Alabama (2-6) returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they host Presbyterian (3-6) in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
